Common iPhone Charging Issues and Fixes for Papakura Locals
So your iPhone is not charging. It’s plugged in, but nothing happens. No lightning icon, no vibration, no charging sound. Frustrating, right?
If you’re in Papakura and facing iPhone Charging Issues, you’re not alone. Charging issues are super common, and the fix is not always a trip to the repair shop. Sometimes it’s something simple. Other times, yeah — it’s a bit more technical.
I’ve written this post based on what we’ve seen people go through (and what we deal with daily at Erepair N Spares). Whether your phone charges sometimes or not at all, let’s go through the usual suspects.
1. Check the Obvious First – The Cable and Adapter
I know, I know. Everyone says this. But seriously, 70 percent of iPhone charging complaints start and end with a bad cable.
Common signs your cable or charger is the issue:
-
Wiggle it a bit — charging starts and stops
-
It works on one plug but not another
-
You’re using a third-party cable bought from a gas station
-
Your dog chewed it (yes, it happens more often than you'd think)
What to do:
Try another certified charger. If possible, use an Apple charger — or at least an MFi-certified one. If that works, toss the old one.
2. The Charging Port Might Be Dirty
Living in Papakura, especially if you’re outdoorsy or a tradie, means your phone might be exposed to dust or pocket lint.
Take a flashlight and look inside the port. You might see dust, fluff, or some weird fuzz.
Fix it like this:
-
Power off the phone
-
Use a wooden toothpick or a soft dry brush
-
Gently scrape out the dirt (no compressed air unless you know how to use it)
Don’t use:
Needles, tweezers, safety pins, or anything metal. You could bend or break the pins inside.
3. Try a Hard Restart or iOS Update
Sometimes, it’s just your phone being weird. A glitchy iOS or frozen background process can cause charging not to respond.
Try this:
-
Force restart (the method depends on your iPhone model)
-
Check for an iOS update
-
Plug it in after restarting
We’ve seen people think their battery was dead when it was just a frozen charging bug. A restart solved it.
4. Battery Might Be on Its Way Out
Here’s a sneaky one. If your phone charges really slowly, or loses charge fast, or only charges when off — you might have a dying battery.
This usually starts after around 2–3 years of use. Or earlier, if you’ve been using dodgy cables.
Signs of a failing battery:
-
It charges but drains super quickly
-
Phone heats up while charging
-
Only charges when you turn it off
-
You get that dreaded “Service battery” warning in Settings
At this point, you’re better off heading to a pro.
5. Internal Charging IC or Motherboard Fault
This one’s not for DIY.
Sometimes, the charging chip inside your phone (called the Tristar IC) gets damaged. It can happen after using cheap chargers, power surges, or water damage.
Symptoms include:
-
Phone won’t charge no matter what cable you use
-
It charges for 1 second, then stops
-
iTunes or Finder won’t detect the phone when plugged in
If that sounds like your iPhone, stop trying random fixes and bring it in for diagnosis.
6. Water Damage Effects (Even If It’s Dry Now)
Dropped your phone in the sink a few weeks ago and thought it was fine? Maybe it’s not.
Water can corrode connectors inside the phone slowly over time. Your phone might be dry but still suffering from internal corrosion that affects charging.
In Papakura, we’ve had clients come in after fishing trips or heavy rain — the phone looked fine but had charging issues. After opening it, we saw green corrosion inside.
Water + time = silent damage.
When You Should Get Help
If you’ve tried the cable, cleaned the port, restarted, and your phone still refuses to cooperate — it’s time to stop guessing.
At Erepair N Spares, we’ve helped heaps of Papakura locals fix their iPhones, often the same day. Whether it’s the battery, port, or IC, we’ll diagnose it properly and use quality parts to repair it.
Final Thoughts
iPhone charging issues can be anything from a cheap cable to a dead charging chip. Don’t panic. Start with the simple stuff. And if all else fails, help is nearby.
